The Green Bay Packers traded Ha Ha Clinton-Dix free security against the Washington Redskins for a 2019 draft pick in the fourth round.
Ty Montgomery was sold to the Ravens just two days after he had defeated the seals The defeat of the Packers against the Rams
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Redskins. Dante Fowler Jr. to the Rams. Golden Tate to the Eagles. Here's every NFL trade since the training camp.
Clinton-Dix, 25, has been a starter since his 2014 rookie season, and he will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. He was a first-round draft pick and made the Pro Bowl in 2016.
The Redskins are in the NFC East with a 5-2 record in the first place.
During his Pro Bowl season, Clinton-Dix had five interceptions, but he had a year in 2017 when the Packers' entire defense fought. He has a better start this season with three interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble in the first seven games.
Clinton-Dix was reliable and played all but eight defensive last season. He once had a succession of 2,033 consecutive defensive games in the field.
The Redskins have D.J. Swearinger, who has played at a high level most of the season as security and occasionally has to play deep. He has intercepted four passes, including two on Sunday's victory over the New York Giants. Runner-up Montae Nicholson has started every game with absolute certainty and gives Washington speed in the middle, but he has not made the impression the team had expected in terms of big games this season. Clinton-Dix gives the Redskins another player who can play both roles.
The real problem was depth. Washington brought rookie Troy Apke into injured reserve with a thigh injury on Monday. The Redskins have Deshazor Everett as their main backup. He is considered an outstanding team. Until this trade, her fourth safety was the undisguised free agent Kenny Ladler, another special team performer.
Even after this trade, Washington should have 10 draft picks next to the season; The Redskins hope to land four equalizer picks based on their last offseason. They have put more emphasis on the acquisition of compensation hoes. If Clinton-Dix vacates in free agency and signs a major contract elsewhere, the Redskins could be eligible for another compensation commission in the 2020 draft.
The Packers have given up their last two high-priced securities – Morgan Burnett and Micah – Hyde – left in the free agency. Clinton-Dix is likely to make a deal next season, at about $ 8 million a year.
The movement leaves the Packers with former undrafted free agents Kentrell Brice and Jermaine Whitehead as their top two assets. It could be more season for the second round of 2017 Josh Jones, who has played this season mainly on special teams.
The Packers also traded running back Ty Montgomery to the Ravens on Tuesday.
