"I do not know if Oklahoma City would have gotten a free agent meeting if it had not gone there," Mintz said. "Now, instead of getting a two-hour free agency meeting with Paul, you get a one-year free agency meeting with Paul, so do what you need to do to convince him," Mintz said. For Thunder GM Sam Presti is the opportunity to re-sign George, one that rejoices the team, he says.
"Players like Paul, one, there are not many of them," Presti said. "Two, they are not often available and three, more likely for us as a smaller market in the NBA, our access to this level of players is not just waiting for you all the time something was. " had to be done.
"We would not have acted against Paul George if we did not believe in our community, our organizational values, our possessions, and if you trust Paul George or a player as an organization, you have to demonstrate that yourself nothing. "
At the end of the special, George meets with Miami heat guard Dwyane Wade on June 15. Over a glass of wine, the two discuss their careers and George asks Wade how he would approach George's situation this summer. Wade recalls his free agency of 2010, in which he was one of the NBA's names, and how a conversation with LeBron James changed his entire career.
"I'll tell you my mindset in 2010 when I was a freelance agent," said Wade. "For me, it was not about money, it was not about winning, many people do not believe that [and] we've already prepared that, Bron called and said," What do you think? "I said," Brother I want to win championships. I'm tired of being knocked out in the first round. That sucks.
"What has accomplished me is to lift that golden thing over my head, that moment fills you like no other moment, I knew that winning would bring anything I wanted and more."
Wade ended with the new signing of The Heat in 2010 as the team also added James and Chris Bosh over sign-and-trade deals. This trio made four NBA finals in a row from 2010 to 2014 and won the championships in 2012 and 2013.
As for George at the Lakers, he sounds fascinated by the possibility of a homecoming. But he also leaves the door open for a return to the OKC.
"At the end of the day, I want to do that, I want to be a champion, in a way, I want to come here and play for the home team and wear a Lakers jersey, which will always be something I want to fulfill, but at the same time it's like the best move.
"I know who I am as a player, and I just want to help a team, and I feel comfortable with that (Russell Westbrook). Then there are other places from Boston to Clippers, to …
(Wade cuts in here to tell George that he can not repent, whatever he decides).
In the first episode of the ESPN Special, George said he would be both overwhelmed and amazed by this free agent experience.
