MELBOURNE, Australia – Paulo Costa is expected to be in the cage at UFC 243 this weekend, but if his face is visible on the screens of the Marvel Stadium, he can not receive a warm welcome.
If a Pre-The question-and-answer session is an indication of how he is treated at the event, and Costa may be facing a long night.
Costa (13-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is expected to challenge the winner of the UFC Middleweight Title Union fight at UFC 243 between champion Robert Whittaker (20-4 MMA, 11-2 UFC) and interim defending champion Israel Adesanya (17-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC). As such, he participates in the card, which takes place on Saturday (Sunday on site) at the Marvel Stadium. The main card will be broadcast after the heats on ESPN2 and UFC Fight Pass / ESPN + in pay-per-view format.
On Saturday he took part in a question and answer session with Alexander Volkanovski, the leading competitor in featherweight. It was not long before the crowd got involved in "Borrachinha".
First questions about his cardio.
"How can you expect to beat Israel if you can not go five rounds?"
Then it was about his ability to beat.
"During the Romero fight you were beaten down a couple of times. What happens if you fight a decent striker like Robert Whittaker and you can not get up, mate? "
Then the gloves really began to break and the Australian crowd went behind Costas's famously sculpted physique, which has raised questions about his compliance with the strict guidelines of the US Anti-Doping Agency.
"I was just wondering if you want to take more supplements after losing to Romero? "
" They called Israel Adesanya "really thin." If he had the same doctor as you, he would probably look like Jon Jones. While Costa remained largely calm during the onslaught, the last question only seemed to annoy him a bit, and he had his own question in answer ̵
"Hey, man, what the (explicit) are you, an (explicit) bully?" One asked. "With that terrible hat on your head. What the (explicit) is this?"
While the fans are certainly of the enormous space and the security service between the seats and the stage were encouraging, Costas direct address at least from this last heckler experienced a rapid change in the tone, which immediately thanked Costa for his time – and at middleweight, even with the native Portuguese. 19659002] "Obrigado, Paulo."
