Some of us earthlings see dancing and green lights in the sky on Saturday night.
The sun shone a torch of energetic particles into space on 20 March, and the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) space forecast predicted that a strip in the north of the US would see a visible effect of this event: one Aurora, or an eerie, dancing greenish light that occurs when the sun's particles interact with the Earth's atmosphere – a geomagnetic storm in which high-energy solar particles drive changes in the Earth's magnetosphere – a vast zone of space around the Earth that contains the magnetic field of the planet changes and develops in response to the sun.
It often takes a few days for powerful torches from the Sun, known as Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), to hit Earth and trigger a space storm.
The Space Prediction Center predicts that a curved strip of land in the US between Washington and Maine is the "most likely" extent of the sky lights. Areas as far south as Colorado may be associated with the aurora.
It is predicted that this widest extent lies between the green and yellow lines in the NOAA graph above or the tweet below. This means parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

While the Lower 48 can glimpse the green light, the event is expected to be quite lively over a majority of Alaska, where the epicenter of the aurora is impressively presented in a ring on the planet.
