A shelter in Philadelphia temporarily suspends adoption and most admissions for upper respiratory tract infections in a number of dogs, some of which cause death. Accepted for two weeks starting on Saturday, with the exception of animals at risk for public Safety or are sick or suffering and in both cases require euthanasia.
The shelter is trying to set up a place outside the general population for a few incoming stray dogs and will try to salvage them quickly if no owner demands them.
Officials said tests have ruled out some major viral infections, such as distemper and canine influenza virus, but they still do not know what they're dealing with
