PHILADELPHIA – Eagles quarterback Nick Foles will play the Cleveland Browns preseason game Thursday night, coach Doug Pederson said.
Foles injured the New England Patriots last week after being hit right in the middle of the defensive by Adrian Clayborn in the second quarter. Foles gripped his arm as he walked to the lawn and did not return to the game. After that, he said that his shoulder was "sprained in a funny way as I went through."
Further tests showed that it was a light load and he was back at the practice site on Sunday.
The Super Bowl MVP had a rocky night before the injury and went 3 of 9 for 44 yards in his first preseason action.
Pederson said he would like to see this Foles "just consistency" from Foles this week. "You saw a few litters early in the game that were just not from Nick Foles, as far as accuracy goes, so just do this kind of routine play and just do the whole run," the coach said. "I would like to see one or two touchdown races."
Pederson wants the starters to play at least half against the Browns.
Carson Wentz returned to 1
"He's fine, he moves well, he makes good decisions, he throws the ball very well," Pederson said. "He's doing the right things with his rehab, and I'm excited about the stage he's on."
Left tackle Jason Peters and runs back Darren Sproles will be back on Thursday. Both come from reconstructive knee surgery, and while they have been practicing this summer, the Eagles are more concerned about getting their veterans into the regular season healthy.
Recipient Alshon Jeffery remains on the physically incompetent list and probably will not make it an apparition this preseason. Fellow Wideout Nelson Agholor and running back Jay Ajayi have been involved in lower body injuries, by Pederson
Defensive end Brandon Graham was activated by PUP on Monday. He will not play on Thursday, but is hopeful to return to the opening game on 6 September.
