A Phoenix couple was killed in a horse and carriage accident during their holiday in Ireland on Monday The Irish Times reported

Rosalyn Joy Few, 64, and Normand Larose, 62, fell 12 feet into a ravine when her horse was startled and jumped, Times . The accident occurred at the Gap of Dunloe in Killarney after the Times.

Few and Larose were thrown 12 feet on a rocky surface, the Times said. The driver escaped serious injury, the report said Times .

Few's daughter and other family members were traveling in separate carriages at the time, reported .

The Times said the horse also suffered injuries and had to be laid down.

Paul O'Neill, president of the Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, said the accident was devastating and expressed his concern to the couple Phoenix.

"We do not know what happened," O & Neill said. "All we can do is support this family as we can."

Prayers for the couple were held near Kate Kearney's Cottage at the entrance to the Gap of Dunloe.
