Thanks to some referee decisions, Real Madrid have eight wins from eight games after a 2-0 win over Alaves, restoring their four-point lead over Barcelona. It was a changed lineup tonight, but still a convincing win.
See player ratings below.
Thibaut Courtois– 8th:: Another goal for the Belgian. Wasn’t very busy throughout the game, but that doesn’t mean Alaves didn’t test him. They had 10 shots and four at the target, all of which Courtois dealt with. Got the job done and closed defensive gaps.
Lucas Vazquez ̵
Raphael Varane – 7: Another defender comes back from an injury. Had the responsibility of leading a redesigned defense and was fine. The biggest moment was an early goal line release. Ended the game with the captain’s armband.
Eder Militao – 7: Stand up for Sergio Ramos. Started strong, but was sometimes forced out of position midfielder to chase back and cover space. Had a few slip-ups but won two duels and a duel.
Ferland Mendy – 7.5: The most influential defender in the team. Caused all possible problems on the left for Alaves and connected to Rodrygo. Drew the penalty for Madrid’s first goal and never stopped threatening afterwards.
Casemiro – 7: A common feat of the Brazilian, who operated in midfield and helped with the defense. Nothing special.
Luka Modric – 8: Since returning from the break, Modric has played with an extra spark and his youth shines through. One of the best midfielders in the game and helped a lot in defense. Three shots and four dribbles.
Toni Kroos– 7.5: Standard game for the German. A bit quiet, but still an important role in the middle of the pack. Had a 96 percent pass completion rate, three shots, two dribbles and two tackles.
Marco Asensio – 7: Was very calm in the first half, could not get any movement on the right wing. His first attempt to reach the goal was blocked, but then a run was planned and linked to Benzema to score the second goal. Nice to see him play longer.
Rodrygo – 8: One of the best achievements of the 19 year old. One of the game’s most threatening players. Often teamed up twice by Alaves and suffered physically. Responsible for building the second goal and ended with six dribbles and two shots, unfortunately not hit.
Karim Benzema – 8: Lead the team to get the three points. Ascended for the punishment and easily converted. Staying up front tonight and then falling deeply if necessary. Set up the second goal for Asensio. Was afraid of injury, but pushed through.
Fede Valverde – 7: Came with 30 minutes left. Did well to hold the ball, but not much else. Seems to play better when he’s a beginner.
Vinicius Junior – 6: Substituted at the same time as Valverde, but contributed little to the game, just seven touches. Still eager, although he runs towards the gate, but is offside.
Isco – 6.5: Played a little over 10 minutes, which is not a lot of time to make a difference, but still tried to be as active as possible. Twenty-three touches, 15 passes, two shots and two dribbles.
Eden Hazard—6: Came at the same time as Isco. Nice to see him again, but only had 10 touches.
Brahim Diaz – N / A: Not enough time on the court.
