After Celebi's arrival, Pokemon Go is in the middle of a Gen 2 celebration earlier this week, and another Legendary from the Johto region returns to the game for a limited time. From now until the end of the Johto Week event, players around the world will once again encounter the Rainbow Pokémon Ho-Oh.
Just like the first run, Ho-Oh will appear as Raid Battle in Gyms. To catch it, you'll first need to team up with other players in a gym where a Ho-Oh Raid is taking place, and challenge the Legendaries to battle. Once defeated, you will be rewarded with Premier Balls and have the chance to conquer it.
Ho-Oh is a dual fire / flying type, so you should bring along strong rock Pokémon like Golem, Tyranitar and the game's newest legend, Regirock, to fight it. This time, Niantic teases that you have the chance to see a Shiny Ho-Oh, which makes him an incentive to visit a raid nearby, even if you already have the Legendary in your collection.
Ho-Oh will be available only until August 27, while the Johto Week on August 28 is due to end at 1
Ho-Oh is not the only johto legend celebrating a comeback. Next month, Niantic is conducting a new series of field research related to Fire Pokemon. If you manage to do enough to reach a research breakthrough, you will be rewarded with another encounter with Entei, one of the three Legendary Dogs of Pokemon Gold and Silver.
The aforementioned Regirock will appear in Raid Battles until September 20. Shortly thereafter, Niantic hosts the next Pokemon Go Community Day with Gen 2 star Chikorita.
