Grzegorz Galasiński's story

Comes from a small village Niemil in Lower Silesia. He had concrete plans, dreams. Everything fell in a fraction of a second. April 23, 2013 survived a tragic accident. His story was lived by all media. The man underwent the first face transplant in Poland.

Grzegorz Galasiński worked in a stonemason's workshop. On that day, the cobblestone packing machine unexpectedly came on and tore off his face. Pain can not describe. He had no face, his eyeballs fell on his cheeks …

The man was immediately taken to the University Hospital in Wroclaw. Grzegorz Galasiński was in the hands of specialists. Everyone was talking about the miracle. The doctors have restored his life. At the same time, at the other end of Poland, a man whose mother consented to the facial grafting of a son died. But they had to act fast. Complex operation under the direction of prof. Adam Maciejewski took up to 27 hours …

I survived my death. I got a second life.

Bones were reconstructed, nerves secured, salivary glands, maxillary sinuses and joints reconstructed. Over time he regained his sense of smell, taste and feeling. He learned to eat, to breathe, to talk again … Need money for treatment. After his return to his home village, he could count on the help of the residents. Collections were organized in the church. Since then he has been fighting for survival. He lives with his mother. He can not work. The only source of income is a monthly pension of PLN 1,000. Money from collections will also go to the treatment. The man takes drugs that prevent graft rejection, making him poorly resistant.

He still has pain today, but he got used to it. "Sometimes it hurts in the damaged eye so much that I want to stick it," he said in an interview with tokfm.pl. He is still facing severe rehabilitation that requires sacrifices from him.

Last year, he was told that the lower jawbone had grown poorly. It has been removed, which causes his chin to fall, he has problems with food or drink. "I have survived my death, I have a second life, nothing will hurt me (…) I am brought to life by the fact that I have to fight!" Says Dzień Dobry TVN.
