. 1 At what intervals do you want to release more games in this series (Maciej2801)?
Supermassive Games: We plan to release 2 games a year – we already have 3 more in development and ideas for the next 4 games!
. 2 What motivated you as a developer to create a multiplayer mode? Is there a chance that the multiplayer mode will also be available in the next titles of the series (vitaldimeo)?
When we finished working on Before Dawn, we came up with the idea of creating shorter horror games in anthology format. We were also inspired by the way people played until dawn and decided that adding a multiplayer game would be a really cool feature! At that point, we were not sure if it was possible and created a working prototype. We showed it to a lot of people who were really taken aback by the idea, so we knew we were prepared for it. We've decided that all The Dark Pictures Anthology games have both a multiplayer and traditional single-player modes. As a result, the multiplayer was in development from the beginning.
. 3 Will the next games in the series be available for the current generation (Mitrakorn)?
The next games in the series, Little Hope, will be available on Xbox, PS4 and PC.
. 4 How long is the game? Are not you afraid that the lack of memory functions or checkpoints at critical moments will not tire or discourage players, for example in situations where their favorite character dies and you need to start the game over again (Grinch Forest)?
The game continued for 4 to 5 hours and is designed for multiple games. Man of Medan has the most branches compared to our previous games, so there are many ways in which scenes can be played and many endings you can see. There are 69 different deaths in the game, and if you want to see them all, you have to play them at least eight times.
The fear of dying your favorite character is a very expedient part of the experience. The more you are afraid, the more tense and scary the experience becomes. And the more people will focus on the possible consequences of their decisions. We are determined that the death of a character should never be insignificant, but should always be of importance to the player.
5. How many games are you planning in the series The Dark Pictures Anthology (Noriaki)?
We are currently working for Man of Medan on three more games in this series, which are at various stages of development. In addition, we have prepared stories for the next 4 games. However, we have identified over 39 different subgenres of horror, so we have a lot of topics that we can work with for a long time!
. 6 Men of Medan seems to be the natural evolution of Until Dawn. Although the game tells a different story, its core remains very similar. Which aspects of the previous project were valuable enough for you to maintain and which of them gave up immediately? What do you think the new mechanics will give players new, memorable experiences (robal1
Of course we love Until dawn, it's in our DNA. We've learned a lot with this game when it comes to the importance of character and movie presentation. We also have a much more sophisticated relationship system – based on your choices and your behavior towards the characters who decide how these characters behave with you. This can benefit you or hinder further development. In one game, you can have good relationships with selected characters, and in another, you can make completely different relationships through different decisions and decisions.
The biggest new mechanism is the multiplayer mode! We have two game modes. With Shared Stories you and your friend can experience this story together! Sometimes together, sometimes apart, but all your decisions have consequences for your friend's story.
The second multiplayer mode is Movie Night. We've looked at innovative ways of playing, especially the way influencers and YouTubeers have played it. We wanted to find a way to simplify this style of play – so the sofa collaboration mode was created. In this way, 2-5 players can enter their name, select characters, and pass the pad when it's their turn. It's a great way to play with horror!
. 7 What horror games and books have you inspired (robal121)?
Of course we have a lot of horror fans in the office, people who have seen and read terrible horror games in many different subgenres. An anthology of horror has existed for over 180 years, beginning with the written form of Twathan Told Tales by Nathan Hawthorn in 1837, followed by Blackwood, Lovecraft, Poe, and Clives Barker's Books of Blood in the 1980s. With programs such as The Twilight Zone, Stories from the Vault, Hammer House and then of course for more modern examples like VHS movies, Trick r Treat and now with shows like Black Mirror.
We are inspired by all of this – we love horror movies and we think that the anthology wearer is a fantastic way to tell great horror imaginations as separate entities that are no longer thematically related.
. 8 Are you planning to publish the entire collection in one package after publishing all parts of Anthology (Tsurugi)?
We are currently ensuring that we do everything in our power to create the best games. The great thing about the Anthology series is that players can play any game in any order, as they are separate titles.
9. Does the game contain macabre / gore elements (Tsurugi)?
This is a horror movie, so there will always be some! We do not rely on Gore to tell the story we want to tell. There are many different elements such as lighting, camera angle, sound and narration. Dark Pictures games are generally about human emotions, unimaginable stress and horror. Therefore, games will always be scary, and we use many film methods to illustrate this. There are certainly many deaths and people can die in many different ways, but it's not always about the bloodstream that makes the story scary and addictive.
10th Are there moments of recreation in the game or are we always under pressure of time and stress (Tsurugi)?
All good horror films have a certain amount of accumulated material before anything goes wrong. Man of Medan is no different. We do not believe that the tension must always be 100%, and there must be elements in the horror that allow the player to slow down and summarize the situation he is in. In Man of Medan, the game starts with four friends and their captain aboard a rented boat. They are on vacation of a lifetime, but of course everything is going in a very bad direction. Tension and terror must be built up and can not be experienced all the time. There is also a curator in production – the character will be featured in every Dark Pictures Anthology game – who will take you off the stage at certain times and give you time to evaluate the events.
. 11 Will you use popular licenses and build games in popular horror movies like "Friday the 13th" or "Nightmare on Elm Street" (SkyShadow)?
We focus on creating original and unique stories for The Dark Pictures Anthology – all stories will have one element of real mythology, legend and conspiracy theory. However, they are all original games with original stories and characters.
12th What was the reason for creating a shorter story and how does it affect the repeatability of the game (Gadek85)?
We present the story we wanted to tell – Man of Medan is about 4 to 5 hours long, but there are so many branches that it can easily be played many times and get different results. Do not forget that all characters can survive or die. So if you do not keep everyone alive, you can play again to make sure it does not happen again. In many scenes there are many different results. For example, in abduction scenes, a character can escape, die, be shot, etc., and you will see things that depend on your choice.
. 13 Until dawn, you could watch production movies, including motion capture sessions. Will such supplements appear in the new game (djgromo)?
Of course, you can unlock many bonus content. There is a documentary, an interview with background material, a teaser, a trailer and even a two-part comic about the secrets of Ourang Medan.
