Low pensions are no longer indexed on the basis of inflation and wage increases – the PiS project assumes this. This should benefit the beneficiaries. Higher pensions will be upgraded under existing rules, but it will also benefit those who receive the benefit.

Retirement 2020. Upgrading, raising pensions under the new rules. What will change?

As every year, on March 1

, 2020, nearly 10 million retirees, retirees, and early retirees receive a valorisation increase. This time, however, lower benefits will be charged differently. So far, the increase for all has resulted from inflation in old people's homes (rising prices for goods bought mainly by retirees) and from a rise in wages (at least 20% of real wage increases in the year before the valorisation). This will change now.

Indexation of pensions 2020: minimum amount

The legislative and judicial program assumes that lower benefits do not depend on a valorisation of values, but on amounts that make them larger. A minimum increase of 70 PLN gross is introduced.

Under the current system of inflation and wage growth for the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, the 2020 index would be 3.24 percent. As a result, a pensioner who collects PLN 1,500 gross would receive an increase of PLN 48 and someone who collects PLN 1,700 – PLN 55 more gross. After the changes both will receive 70 PLN more gross as this is the lowest increase.

Currently, pensions are rising by the same percentage for all. As a result, the poor receive a gross increase, for example, 40 PLN, and the rich 160 PLN. The PiS plan aims to ensure that the rich comply with their valorisation rules, and the poor receive a minimum guarantee of PLN 70 gross.
