The first YotaPhone smartphone appeared in 2012, surprising the world with its innovative approach to two displays. Within a few years, the manufacturer perfected its vision by producing three generations of the device. Unfortunately, the market has verified projects that were below expectations. Therefore, the Russian company has filed for bankruptcy.
Yota became famous for its interesting and original smartphones from the YotaPhone series. They were characterized by two displays: the classic LCD and the second E Ink. The traditional screen was on the front of the device and the one with electronic paper on the back. This solution was really good because the smartphone itself was not equipped with foils or folded parts.
With the decision not to bring the second-generation device to the US market, everything started to go awry. It is also worth mentioning that YotaPhone 2 was financed, among other things, from user funds ̵
Unfortunately, smartphones from Yota became interesting and did not stand out from the competition too well. The first and second generation of the device was sold at a value of 75,000 units – a really modest number. The bankruptcy proceedings were filed by Hi-P Singapore, the company that provided the displays for YotaPhone 1 and 2. There were several reasons for the dispute, but the largest non-submission of the minimum order quantity for components from Yota proved that the devices did not sell like this. Well, as the producer supposed.
