Chicago police have located a surveillance video of "potential buyers" in the alleged attack by "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett.
"Detectives have found a surveillance camera that challenges potential interested parties to the attack and battery of the" Empire "actor," tweeted police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "A community alert with photos is in the process of being set up and will be distributed soon."
Smollett's music manager also confirmed that he was phoning with the actor at the time Tuesday morning in Chicago attacked early, and he heard some of what had happened.
Brandon Z. Moore, representing Smollett, told Variety that he had handed over his report to the police, but refused to go into detail because it was an active investigation.
The attack is characterized as a possible hate crime and involves two men who proclaim "racial and homophobic insults" on Smollett and pour an "unknown chemical substance" on him. and wrapped a rope around his neck, according to the Chicago Police Department. In a follow-up interview with the police, Smollett told the investigators that he heard attackers call "MAGA Land". MAGA stands for Make America Great Again, the motto of President Trump.
Moore said Variety that he heard these words be used. "I heard that clearly. I heard the noise and I heard the racial bites, "he said.
Guglielmi said Smollett recalled that the "MAGA-land" phrase "was used for detectives at their first follow-up examinations." Initially they were not addressed to the responding officers, but the detectives filled out a supplemental report with the updated information
Smollett brought himself to Northwestern University Hospital and was listed in good condition.
According to ABC News, an earlier threat had occurred. Smollett was mailed before Tuesday, and this investigation has now been turned over to the FBI.
The incident was widely circulated in Hollywood and condemned by several legislators on Capitol Hill, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Running for president, wrote on Twitter that Smollett was "one of the kindest and most gentle People I know. I pray for his speedy recovery. This was a modern lynch attempt. Nobody should fear for their life because of their sexuality or skin color. We have to face this hatred.
A potential presidential candidate for 2020, former Vice President Joseph Biden, wrote: "What happened today with
@ JussieSmollett must never be tolerated in this country. We must get up and demand that we no longer give this hatred a safe haven; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts. We're with you, Jussie. "
Smollett was scheduled to perform on Saturday at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. It is unclear whether this phenomenon will take place.
