RALEIGH, NC – Investigators from North Carolina investigate how a police officer has fatally shot dead in the state capital, the authorities said Sunday.
30-year-old Soheil Antonio Mojarrad was killed Meeting with an officer on Saturday night in a shopping mall in the east of the city, police said.
It is unclear what the shooting was about. Officials did not immediately reveal if Mojarrad was armed with a gun or other weapon during the shot.
The police identified the officer involved in the shooting as W.B. Edwards Edwards was equipped with a body-worn camera at the time of filming, but it was not activated, officials said. Raleigh police and agents from the State Bureau of Investigation investigated more videos related to the incident, police said.
The authorities said the SBI will submit the results of its criminal investigation directly to the Wake County District Attorney. Raleigh police will conduct an internal affairs investigation focused on adherence to departmental policies, while local investigators will investigate Mojarrad's actions prior to the shooting.
