Power outage in Washington, DC: Pepco substation equipment problem

More than 39,000 customers were out of power in the country's capital after a Pepco substation on Saturday had a device problem, reports CBS subsidiary WUSA. This number has since been revised to 5,500 from 10:00 pm. The officials were not sure when the power supply for the remaining customers will be fully restored.

"We strive to restore customer service as quickly and safely as possible, and investigate the cause of the incident." .

Firefighters reported that they responded to several calls from people in elevators. Deputy Mayor Donahue tweeted about the failure and pointed to an affected traffic light.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the Domestic Security Division of DC is working to solve the problem.
