A lot of packaged turkey and Swiss submarine sandwiches sold under two brand names were recalled because of the possibility of having Listeria.
The recall notice from Lipari Foods states that batch No. 17201807 was produced by Premo Brand and Fresh Grab Turkey and Swiss subs by affiliate JLM on July 17 Days later it was shipped to Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
But there was a problem.
"This was brought to our attention by JLM after the routine environmental monitoring and product testing initiated by JLM yielded positive test results for potential contamination of Listeria …" Lipari said
Listeria does not come that much, according to the Centers for Disease Control like salmonella in the United States annually about 1,600, as opposed to 1.2 million salmonella.
Listeria's mortality rate of 16.25 percent, however, only exceeds the inpatient rate of salmonella (1.9 percent). The most susceptible to Listeria are pregnant women, babies, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system.
