Former President Jimmy Carter was hospitalized to relieve pressure on his brain.
95-year-old Carter was admitted to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on Monday. An operation is scheduled to take place on Tuesday morning from the Carter Center.
The statement states that the pressure on his brain was caused by bleeding "due to his recent falls".
"President Carter is resting comfortably and his wife Rosalynn is with him." the statement ended.

Carter, whose birthday was October 1, is the longest living US president in history.
The former president suffered injuries in a fall at his home last month, which required sutures over his forehead. He also broke his hip after suffering a fall in his house last May as he prepared for turkey hunting.

The 39th Commander-in-Chief served from 1977 to 1981 when he was in his fifties.
Carter hoped earlier this year that there would be an age limit for the occupation of the highest elected office in the United States.
