Billboard says the book is "the most deeply personal account of how Prince Rogers Nelson became the prince we know," and discussed, as a normal child "a person an artistic vision and a life before the Hits and the fame that would shape him. "Interestingly, Billboard claims the Prince's literary agent in 2018 claimed he had completed" more than 50 handwritten pages "for the book, but the finished version of The Beautiful Ones appears on 288 pages, which are many rare photos, scrapbooks and texts.
