Profile of the journal "Junk Science" by Peter Thiel from someone who asked to write / Boing Boing

Adam Becker was invited to write for Inference, a "quarterly science review" backed by billionaire Peter Thiel. Inference covers all sorts of interesting topics, but has an alarming tendency not to distinguish between pseudoscience and reality: think Omni however, with the dry imprimatur of the academic style instead of cool paintings. So Becker went down the Rabbithoch (instead of being paid for it) and wrote down a profile of the publication for Undark.

An italic explanation on their head gave me a pause: "We have no ideological, political or religious agendas Whatever. "This occurred to me as an unusual over-emphasis, so I dug a bit and came across a blog post by computer scientist Jeffrey Shallit in 201

4, in which he reflects on the first issue of this new" science "publication. The craziness is strong – very strong – with this one. "

It sounds like what I would love – yielding boredom over crazy science – but the reality of such things in 2019 is climate denial and creationism, as well as Noam Chomsky. I did not respond to press inquiries as to why he was on the board.

(The picture above is, in the absence of inference with any visual character of a screenshot, anyway, my own idea of a Boing Boing Journal of junk science might lo ok like – maybe it's time!)
