SCUF Gaming is known for its extravagant, modular controllers that provide a range of additional inputs and handles. While the company had a number of gamepads for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and the PC, a new third-party Sony licensed controller for the PS4 has just been introduced in the SCUF Vantage. A wired USB version has a base price of $ 170, and the Bluetooth wireless model starts at $ 200 – customization options change the price. This fully featured gamepad is expected to be released in August.
One of the notable changes from the standard DualShock 4 is the analogue placement of the analog stick, similar to the Xbox controllers. You can also trade thumbsticks for those that have either dome-shaped hills or higher cane heights. It's a toolless process as the Vantage's magnetic front panel easily snaps out, revealing another thing that you can customize; Two Rumble-Packs on the handles can be removed to reduce weight and prevent vibration.
The main advantage that users get is the amount of programmable buttons. On the back of the controller are four paddles, all of which can be assigned like any other key. Face keys are normally assigned to the paddles, so your thumbs do not have to leave the analog sticks to perform common actions. SCUF said that the paddle mechanism has been redesigned to be smoother than previous controllers. Two programmable side buttons (the so-called "Sax buttons") are new in the SCUF lineup. These are located just around the triggers, so only minimal movement is required. All features of the Vantage are shown in the picture below.
With this new controller, several quality-of-life supplements are integrated. Unlike previous SCUF gamepads, the Vantage does not require a magnetic key to remap buttons; It is now reduced to a simple switch that allows you to change the controller on the fly. With a touch bar, you can adjust the overall volume, mix chat and audio in the game, or mute the chat very quickly. If you want to use a disc-shaped D-pad instead of the standard four-way design, this is also an option. Swappable Trigger Caps are also included, and the hair release mechanism, which allows you to change the draw resistance and stop distance of the L2 and R2 triggers, will still be found on the Vantage. The Bluetooth wireless model can also function as a wired controller and should provide a 1ms response time when connected.
SCUF is not just any gamepad maker; In 2015, it helped develop the Xbox Elite controller by licensing some of its technologies to Microsoft. SCUF currently offers the PlayStation 4 controllers Impact and Infinity 4PS Pro with programmable paddles and customizable buttons.
