Here at Ars, we have not spent much time and effort lately keeping Ars readers up to date on the ongoing sales battle between Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. It has been obvious for some time now that Sony's system significantly outperforms Microsoft's worldwide sales. In fact, the PS4 still sells the Nintendo Switch on an annual basis, even though it is many years older.

But when Sony announced last night that the PS4 had crossed the 100 million mark in less than six years, we thought that was the case. It's worth putting this nine-digit milestone in context. Here are some comparisons to help you understand how important this sales level (and pace) really is.
