Realistically speaking, the Jacksonville Jaguars had no choice but to try Blake Bortles again at quarterback.
Bortles fought powerfully for several weeks, and coach Doug Marrone hit a break of 20-7 on Sunday at the Houston Texans. He took Bortles, not that it helped much.
But what would the Jaguars do to turn to Cody Kessler full-time? The Jaguars surprised very few people by announcing that Bortles will start the Jaguars' next game, which is Sunday in London against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Statement by head coach Doug Marrone:
"I spoke with both quarterbacks this afternoon I told them that Blake will be the quarterback of our team, I think that gives us the best chance of winning." pic.twitter.com/eDXVHtUrTf

Jaguars do not have a great QB option
The easy thing is to cries that the Jaguars Bortles need to break down. The more difficult thing is to tell them who should replace Bortles.
Kessler was not bad in 2016 as a freshman in a bad Cleveland Browns team, but he is limited. Very few people would call Kessler a quarterback who can help his team get to a division or AFC championship game. At least Bortles did that. The Jaguars came in last season with Bortles at quarterback quite close to a Super Bowl.

Blake Bortles is extremely streaky
It's always worth pointing out that Bortles has good games. They are completely overshadowed by their bad games, which are usually terrible and there are clearly too many of them. But he is the same guy who threw 2 wins over the Patriots for 376 yards and four touchdowns in a week. He had a three-game streak last season in which he threw for 903 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions for a 128.6-rating. He had a 96.6 passer rating in the last two playoff games of the Jaguars last season and the Patriots needed a miracle comeback in the fourth quarter win.
All this led to the Jaguars bringing Bortles back for another season as a starter. It looked early after a decent decision. Then the bottom fell, and Jacksonville's best remaining hope is that Bortles finds every fleeting magic he had here and there through this career.
