Queens F Train Partially derailed, MTA reports serious breakdowns



NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The subway line in Queens was severely disrupted after a train in Manhattan was partially derailed on Saturday night.

Tim Minton, Communications Director of MTA, says three wheels of the first car of the train have strayed off the tracks near Sutphin Boulevard Station just before 8:00 pm before this derailment.

According to the authorities, at this time 195 people were Train None was injured. All passengers were evacuated to an emergency train and taken to nearby Parsons Boulevard.

The E and F train service was temporarily discontinued in the area between Briarwood Station and 179 Street.

E-trains now operate in both directions, but F-trains operate on the E-Line from Briarwood to Jamaica, and transit officials are requesting commuters to use a different route.

F trains operate only to Continental Avenue. Those driving on the E-Line are reportedly driving to the Jamaica Center-Parsons / Archer station. There are also shuttle buses on Briarwood.

The MTA says they are still investigating how this happened.

Minton added Under the second car of the derailed train, a third track mat was found covering the track to protect humans.

Officials could not find any connection between the third track mat and the derailment. There was no work going on in the tunnel on Saturday night.
