In perhaps the most exciting and challenging final round in the history of spelling contests, eight students shared the trophy of the nation's highest spelling contests on Thursday night.

Yes, you read that right: eight students, a trophy and a lot of words that most people have not even heard.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee was in the third hour of the last round of 16 spelling contests when the voice of contestant Jacques Bailly admitted it. Perhaps the students are missing the words.

"Champion spell checker, we're now in unknown territory," Bailly told the crowded crowd at the Gaylord National Harbor Convention Center in Maryland and the prime time viewers on ESPN.

We still have many words on our list, "he continued," but soon we'll run out of words that may challenge you, the most phenomenal collection of super-spell-writers in the history of this contest. "
