Rep. Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar and one of the first two Muslim women elected to the US House of Representatives appeared on Wednesday's "Late Show with Stephen Colbert." There she had a simple answer to the comments of host "Fox and Friends" Brian Kilmeade, who seemed to question the loyalty of Congressmen to the United States.

"I took an oath," she said. "I've taken an oath to the Constitution, I'm as American as anybody else," said Omar.

Colbert pointed out that the congressman had appeared on the show before Omar's topic became controversy.

"They certainly have become a lightning rod for the people on the right and for some Democrats. Would you like me to go through the timeline of lightning?" he was joking. "Or do you want to explain how you feel about becoming a lightning rod for people, because that's part of your story."

Colbert referred to both comments made by MP Omar, who were condemned by members of both parties as anti-Semitic and Islamophobic remarks about the Congressman, a Somali immigrant to the United States.
