A Republican political action committee broadcasted a controversial television advertisement during the Democratic primary debate, in which the image of newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went up in flames .
The PAC, New Faces GOP was created by former California Republican Congressional candidate Elizabeth Heng and, according to their website, aims to "promote the next generation of Republicans."
In the ad told by Heng, a photo of Ocasio-Cortez is burning, as Heng says: "This is the face of socialism."
"Does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know the horror of socialism?" Adds Heng in advertising, when a photo of skulls in a Khmer Rouge death camp in Cambodia is shown.
"My father was minutes before death in Cambodia before a forced marriage saved his life. This is socialism: forced obedience. Hunger. "Heng says in the ad.
" My face is a face of freedom, my skin is not white, I'm not outrageous, racist or socialist. I'm a Republican, "she says.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to the commercial on Twitter and wrote: "Republicans turn on television advertising and set fire to pictures of me to convince people that they are not racist. Life is strange!
She added that the advertisement was for white supremacy.
"Know that this is not an advertisement for young color conservatives – that was the pretext. " she wrote . "What you just saw was a love letter to the white supremacy case of the GOP."
Some Twitter users rushed to Ocasio-Cortez's defense – and slammed ABC for broadcasting the controversial ad.
