Researchers suggest that you eat your apples differently so as not to lose the health benefits



An apple a day is more likely to keep the doctor away if you eat it all – seeds and everything.

The number of healthy bacteria you ingest will increase significantly if you study the entire apple, according to a new study.

Researchers from the Graz University of Technology in Austria identified a beneficial type of bacteria called Lactobacillus in the nucleus and seeds of organic apples. Lactobacillus is also commonly found in probiotics that have been shown to relieve some digestive disorders.

In the study, the bacterial content in stalk, peel, pulp and seeds was recorded in both organic and non-organic apples. The majority of the friendly bacteria were found in the seeds of both species, according to Good Morning America.

Apple seeds contain a chemical compound called amygdalin, which produces the poison cyanide when the seeds are crushed and eaten.
