The new Resident Evil 2 remake for PS4, Xbox One and PC is a huge success. Capcom has announced that the game has shipped 3 million copies worldwide in its first week.
Capcom also announced that the entire Resident Evil line has shipped 88 million units since the series was first released in 1996 for Resident Evil 7, which confirms that 6 million copies have been delivered.
It's no surprise that Resident Evil is Capcom's largest franchise based on the total number of units sold. The new edition is well on its way to achieving that goal. A big introductory week for the remake was no surprise as the game's unique "1-shot demo" reached 4.7 million downloads.
Capcom believes the remake of Resident Evil 2 continues to sell well. The company believes that the remake can enjoy the kind of "long-term sales" Resident Evil 7 has made.
Looking ahead, the new Ghost Survivors DLC from Resident Evil 2, which is free, will be launched on February 1
"Not only is Resident Evil 2 an excellent remake of the original, but it's also a powerful horror game that creates fearful and grotesque situations and surpasses some," wrote critic Alessandro Fillari. "Most of all, the remake is an impressive match for the fact that it's about the pure survival horror experience, confidently listening to its appalling tone and seldom fading until the end of the story."
