Results of the Stanley Cup Final Game 1: The Stars lead with an outstanding defensive performance 1-0 against Lightning

An offensively dominant second period and a defensively strong third period enabled the Dallas Stars to take a 1-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Saturday’s Stanley Cup final. Tampa Bay simply wasn’t able to convert any of their many closing-streak chances – including multiple power games – leading to a 4-1 star win.

It was far from the most exciting start to the game as every team seemed to shake off the nerves that come with playing in a championship series. The stars were able to calm down first, do a strong pre-screening, and force costly sales in Tampa Bay to give Joel Hanley a chance to score the series̵

7; first goal. The start of the Blitz was a little less convincing. A shot ricocheted off a defender’s skate and made it to the back of the net to knot things at one gate per piece.

Dallas dominated the second half, keeping the lightning on their heels, scoring two goals behind Andrei Vasilevskiy to take a 3-1 lead in the closing stages. At this point, Tampa Bay was taking things seriously on the offensive, but ultimately the attempts resulted in nothing tangible. Anton Khudobin, who had never started a playoff game before this season, was the impenetrable force the Lightning couldn’t get past to score even a goal against their opponents.

The Dallas Cinderella story is now three games away from its fairytale ending and the first title in the franchise since 1999. The Blitz will need a strong reaction in Game 2 before it leads to another post-season failure.
