Ridgefield PD participates in the National Day of Drug Withdrawal



RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Ridgefield Police, in partnership with Bissell Pharmacy and the Ridgefield Prevention Council, will hold a prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th. 10am to 2pm, potentially dangerous. Unused and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicines are being collected at Bissell Pharmacy, 23rd Governor Street. If you want to dispose of medication, you do not have to leave your vehicle. This service is free and completely anonymous.

All medicines collected under this initiative are being destroyed in an incinerator by officers of the Ridgefield Police Department.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was approved by the DEA to combat the abuse of prescription drugs. 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs, according to the 201

5 National Drug Use and Health Survey. The study shows that much of the abused prescription medication was received by family and friends, often from the medicine cabinet.

At the last DEA-sponsored Take Back Day in October, 5,814 pounds were raised to Dr.-Ing. 53 law enforcement agencies in Connecticut. Around 456 tons of medicines were collected nationwide.
