Ritz recalls products due to food poisoning fears.

Over the weekend, Mondelez Global LLC – the parent company of Ritz – announced that it had voluntarily recalled certain Ritz Cracker sandwiches and Ritz Bits products. The whey powder used in the articles was recalled by a supplier for possible Salmonella contamination.

Recalled products include various types of Ritz bits, cheese cracker sandwiches and cracker variety packs. You can see a full list of the recalled items here.

So far, no diseases have been reported related to the consumption of Ritz products.

Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Usually, healthy adults can recover in less than a week, but the infection can be fatal for small children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.

Salmonella is responsible for some of the most widespread food poisoning outbreaks in the US United States in recent history. In 1985, more than 6,000 people became ill and nine people died in a salmonella outbreak related to spoiled milk. And an outbreak in 2009 in connection with a peanut factory affected more than 500 people, eight of whom died.

Food poisoning hit the headlines more often than usual in 2018. Earlier this month, McDonald's plans to remove salads 3,000 places by health officials referred to the menu items as the potential source of a parasitic outbreak that has sickened 163 people in 10 states. Also this month, the CDC has issued a warning to customers not to eat Kellogg's Honey Smacks and to ask all traders to sell the recalled grain.
