After two years in the NFL, Rob Ryan is thrilled to coach Jay Gruden at the Washington Redskins.
In an interview with NBC Sports Washington, Ryan said he did this. He was interviewed twice for a job at Washington and is very pleased to be able to join Gruden and Defense Coordinator Greg Manusky in DC.
"Oh man, I'm excited," Ryan said. "It's going to be so much fun. So much respect for Jay Gruden for years and actually now … I've interviewed twice, I wanted to be so bad. The first time did not work, but this time I am so happy that I come to him. Him and Greg (Manusky), these guys make you feel like you just want to go in and do something and be a small part of their success.
"There is so much enthusiasm in this building. Man, you can feel it and it will just be something special.
Ryan trained last at the Buffalo Bills in 2016 as Deputy Head Coach / Defender under Brother Rex Ryan. He said he had contacted the team when he learned that former center-back Kirk Olivadotti coach would not be back.
"I was just a long admirer of them and I kept an eye on them and knew that Olivadotti was it I went, then I jumped in and said" Hey, come on man, give me a shot here , I would like to interview for an interview. "And I did that and it went well and man, I could feel it," Ryan said.
"It's going to be fun, it's going to be an exciting team, it's going to be a great team that's trained so well, you've trained (Jim) Tomsula D-Line, you've got a Pro Bowl staff." (Ray) Horton is a buddy of a Secondary Coach and Manusky is a tough guy as they get. "
