Before the match of the 17th week of the team with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders get their cap-place in order. On Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reported that the Raiders had paid the leaderboard bonuses of four seasoned players, including big receiver Jordy Nelson and linebacker Tahir Whitehead.
Essentially, this means that all four players are guaranteed that they will be on the squad in 2019, and the team wanted their salaries for the upcoming ones Season into this year's cap. This, in turn, will give the Raiders a little more space for the vacant agency this off-season.
Nelson has signed a two-year contract this off-season to play second fiddle to Amari Cooper. But after the Cooper trade Nelson was pushed into the No.1 recipient role. On the way to 2019, the Raiders must find a complement to him, as they can not rely on the soon-to-be-34-year-old receiver to carry the attack next season.
Linebacker Tahir Whitehead has been in the second half of the season. But as well as the recipient position, the team has to add teens to the linebacker next season. However, Whitehead has done enough to secure a starting place in 2019.
