The Italian Open starts on Sunday, and Federer has passed the first round as the third seed. He will play either against Frances Tiafoe (37th place) or Joao Sousa (75th place).
Federer is four times second at the Italian Open, which he never won. This makes him one of the few major trophies of the 20th Grand Slam winner of the last two years has not claimed. He decided to return this year to prepare for his first appearance at the French Open since 2015.
