ROME (AP) – Roger Federer has included the Italian Open in his program.

One day after his defeat by Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open, Federer announced his plans in an Instagram video on Saturday.

Federer says: "Hello everybody, just talked to the team and I'm glad to say that I'm coming back to Rome to play in Italy, I can not wait, it's so exciting, it's too long I'll see you there, Ciao Tutti, bye. "

The Italian Open starts on Sunday, and Federer has passed the first round as the third seed. He will play either against Frances Tiafoe (37th place) or Joao Sousa (75th place).

Federer is four times second at the Italian Open, which he never won. This makes him one of the few major trophies of the 20th Grand Slam winner of the last two years has not claimed. He decided to return this year to prepare for his first appearance at the French Open since 2015.

Roland Garros starts on May 26th.
