Rumors of Dallas Keuchel: Yankees and Cardinals as leaders

With Craig Kimbrel closer to the market and on the way to the Chicago Cubs, rumors of free agent starter Dallas Keuchel are beginning to intensify. The Atlanta Braves have become the front runner for Keuchel, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Atlanta starters this season have an ERA of 4.33, which is good for 14th place in MLB. Adding Keuchel to the rotation would undoubtedly improve the Braves' chances of repeating themselves as champions of the National League East. But Atlanta is not the only team associated with veteran Lefty.

In recent days, Keuchel was most associated with the New York Yankees . However, Andy Martino of SNY reported on Thursday that the Cardinals and Twins were also associated with Keuchel. Here's more from Martino:

The Yankees continue to talk to Dallas Keuchel, the free agent launcher, but have to deal with the competition from the St. Louis Cardinals and other teams, according to key leagues.

The Braves and Twins have also been involved, though the exact extent of their interest on Thursday morning was unclear.

As SNY reported last week, the Americans are at the forefront of signing Keuchel. Sources would not say if New York is willing to spend more than a year on the 31

-year-old former Cy Young winner, whose performance has declined in recent seasons.

As mentioned earlier, the 2019 MLB Draft should open markets for both Keuchel and Kimbrel . Now, the team that Keuchel finally lands no longer has to do without a draft pick.

Keuchel, 31, is 76-63 with 3.66 ERA in seven major league seasons, all with the Houston Astros. Keuchel's agent Scott Boras recently said he could be ready to play in an MLB game a week after signing. The former Cy Young winner played seven simulated games (95-104 fields) every five days to prepare for a potential starring role with a team.
