Crowe laughingly said everything that was right before he explained further.
"I did not think Peter Jackson wanted me for this movie," said Crowe, referring to 2001's The Companions of the Ring . "Because he was forced to talk to me because there was a moment when everyone wanted me in everything."
As a New Zealander, Crowe Stern stated that during their conversation he could hear certain inflections in Jackson's voice that revealed his true feelings.
"I'm talking to him on the phone, I do not think he even knows what I did," said the gladiator star. "I just knew that was my instinct, that he had someone in mind that turned out to be a Viggo, and he should be allowed to hire the actor he wants."
Stern made sure he understood and asked if he meant the Warner Bros. studio. He forced Jackson to offer Crowe the role. The actor said that was correct.
Stern turned to money and asked Crowe if he had ever considered missing the huge paycheck.
