PYONGYANG, North Korea – Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrives in North Korea on Thursday
Lavrov's visit precedes a planned summit meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was considered an attempt by Moscow to make his voice heard in the diplomatic approaches of the North to Washington, Seoul and Beijing
Upon his arrival, Lavrov met North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a previous statement She will discuss bilateral issues and the overall situation on the Korean Peninsula. Details of Lawrow's flight schedule in Pyongyang were not disclosed.
Despite a border with the north and relatively warm relations that Vladimir Putin seemed to continue to develop, Russia has so far largely been sidelined when Kim emerged on the world stage this year.
Kim has met twice with China's President Xi Jinping and South Korean President Moon Jae-in. One of Kim's supreme lieutenants, former intelligence chief Kim Yong Chol, is now in New York to discuss with US officials the agenda for the summit planned in or around Singapore on June 12.
