BALTIMORE – Chris Sale celebrated his return from the list of disabled people by hitting 12 over five dominant innings, and the Boston Red Sox moved 50 games over .500 by taking a run from the Baltimore low Orioles with a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
Sale (12-4) was placed on the DL on July 28 with left shoulder inflammation. After injury, the injury is no longer a problem.
The left-hander allowed only one goal, a clean third inning single by Renato Nunez in the left field, and did not leave. Sale hit the page twice, opening at least two in his other three innings.
Sale is 7-0 in his last nine starts, a streak he started before making his third consecutive start at the All-Star Game on July 17. He owns a 0.20 ERA in his last seven outings and leads the AL at 1.97 for the year.
Sale also took over the Major League lead in strikeouts with 219 – Washington's ace Max Scherzer has 216 and starts Sunday night against the Cubs

Steve Pearce married for the Red Sox, who won 10 of 11 to improve 85-35. Boston won all four at Camden Yards this week and is 14-2 against the Orioles, who are 49 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East.
Baltimore struck 18 times in his fifth defeat in a row. The Orioles have suffered at least nine losses from five games or more this season.
Alex Cobb (3-15) took the loss, although he only allowed two runs, one earned, over seven innings.
Pearce beats a solo After a left-footer in the third inning, Brock Holt hit Adam Jones in the fourth round following a mistake by right winger.
Baltimore sent the outs to sixth with two outs before Ryan Brasier hit Trey Mancini for a 3-2 draw
After Mancini scored a sacrifice in the eighth game, Matt Barnes beat Tim Beckham with the possible ties to third place.
Boston pulled away in the ninth field. Jackie Bradley Jr. singled the run and scored a double from Mookie Betts.
Red Sox: SS Xander Bogaerts got the day off after ramming his left pinkie into third base on Saturday night. X-rays were negative. … LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (right ankle sprain) had a bullpen session. "It was really good," he said.
Orioles: OF / DH Mark Trumbo was not started due to an inflamed right knee. He went as a pinch-hitter in the ninth and stroked.
Red Sox: Boston gets a day off Monday before starting a two-game series in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Red Sox stand 8: 2 against the NL.
Orioles: After yesterday's Monday, Baltimore receives the Mets on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Orioles beat the Mets 2-1 and 1-0 in June.
