SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, said Friday that its recently developed, unbreakable, pliable display has passed US safety testing and enabled the company to begin marketing the product ,

The South Korean company, an Apple Inc supplier, said the screen can be used in devices such as smartphones, tablet computers, portable gaming machines, and consoles in cars.
The display is protected by plastic instead of glass, which increases flexibility and makes it virtually unbreakable, Samsung Display said on its website.
It is important that the screen has an improved transparency, almost like glass, so that it can be installed on nearby devices such as smartphones, said a Samsung official.
The screen was certified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., a test company for the US Department of Labor, for tests that were dropped 26 times from a height of 1.2 meters, Samsung Display said.
After the test, the screen continued to function normally without damaging the front, sides or edges, the company said.
U.S. This certification gives the brand credibility that marketing can begin worldwide, not just in the United States, Samsung Display said.
Samsung Electronics has widely expected to introduce a folding-screen device, as its mobile boss said in September that such a device has been developed and must overcome technological hurdles before it could be released in 2018.
