Samsung Galaxy S10E review: Galaxy S10E is Samsung's dynamite answer to the iPhone XR

When I started using the Galaxy S10E ($ 720 on Amazon), I thought, "Wow, out of all the Galaxy S10 ($ 1,000 on Amazon) – that could be the biggest hit. "I still feel like this. It's hard to find a serious mistake. The Galaxy S10E is the smallest and cheapest of Samsung's four new Galaxy Phones priced at $ 750, $ 669 and $ 1

,199. By the way, the "E" stands for "Essential". It also has the lowest number of cameras and other add-ons, but has the same core features as the $ 1,000 Galaxy S10 Plus, including all three fantastic cameras, the award-winning Snapdragon 855 processor and Android Pie with the new One-UI interface from Samsung top.

Battery life is high. You can use the phone to wirelessly charge Qi-enabled devices. It's just as resistant to water and dust as any other Galaxy S10 phone. In addition, two "compromises" of the Galaxy S10E can solve potential problems that may occur with the larger Galaxy S10 Plus.

First, the screen is flat and not curved. This is a bit less insistent, but it's easier to tap the cursor at the beginning of a text box. For me, that often falls on the curve, which can be a no-man's-land to spot faucets. If you're like my mother, a flat screen and straight sides can make the S10E lighter. Then there are people like my brother: A no-nonsense man who just wants a phone, damn it, and hell with the bells and whistles.

Another "compromise" that might turn out to be an advantage is that there are no screen-sized ultrasound fingerprint readers like the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10 5G . Instead, the fingerprint scanner is a capacitive pad integrated with the on / off switch. It's actually more accurate than the in-screen reader.

A price war is the biggest threat to the Galaxy S10E. This is not the iPhone XR ($ 750 at Verizon Wireless) which costs the same and has less goodies (like smaller storage capacity). It's the OnePlus 6T ($ 645 on Amazon) which is the biggest threat at £ 550, £ 499 (or about $ 775) – this was also our top value phone for 2018. Google will as well rumored Release a cheaper Pixel 3 Lite this spring, which could cause problems for the S10E when it comes closer to the price of the 6T.

The Galaxy S10E, S10 and S10 Plus

The take-away is that the Galaxy S10E is a small but powerful powerhouse worth the price. If you do not need a 6.4-inch screen and no telephoto lens, this is the Galaxy S10.

Read all about the Galaxy S10E, including fingerprint sensor, cameras, and battery life. A comparison of the purchase manuals with other mobile phones and a complete data comparison can be found directly at the end.

Galaxy S10E versus Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus

Do not be tempted to imagine the S10E as the joke of the litter. It's the smallest and least decorated, but it's a strong phone in itself. Larger differences arise from the size, the number of cameras, the screen resolution and the battery and storage capacities.

For example, the Galaxy S10E has 128GB or 256GB storage options, while the S10 Plus achieves an amazing 1TB. Most people in the world do not really need 1 TB of storage space. 128 GB with a 512 GB microSD option is a generous output for most people. And although the 3,100 mAh battery sounds smaller than the S10 Plus's 4,100 mAh battery, it still lasts all day. It was 17 hours in our looping video deflation test. That's not a lot of rough edges.

This mini-comparison shows the main differences:

The design and size of the Goldilocks are just right.

You and others have called the Galaxy S10E a "small" phone. However, this is not a mini-device like the 3.3-inch Palm. It's about the same size and dimensions as an iPhone XS ($ 1,000 on Amazon) but it's significantly smaller than the Galaxy S10 Plus. I called it adorable small, but with a 5.8-inch screen, nothing shrank.

I have relatively small hands, so the S10E is pretty perfect for me. It's a sleek, slippery cellphone, and though it's been torn off by some tabletops, the straight sides and smaller frame feel more secure in the hand than the larger S10 Plus. I would recommend a case to most people.

Tap : The 5.8-inch screen is far from small, though typing feels more compact than on a larger screen. While the S10E's digital keyboard feels like it's on the Galaxy S10 Plus's 6.4-inch display, it feels "small," but if you're on a phone with a similar-sized display, you will not notice much difference ,

One-Hand Photography : Especially for my smaller hands, the Galaxy S10E was a relief when taking pictures. I tend to hold the S10 Plus steady with two hands and then shoot quickly with my finger when the autofocus does not read my mind. Sometimes I have to use the tip of my nose. I do not have to tell you how awkward it is to peck your screen like a bird, but I know I can not be the only person to do that.

The S10E is small enough to hold one hand and, if necessary, to focus on the other. Samsung's Shot Suggestion software also tries to make things easier for you by automatically taking a picture when you're aligning the shot along a proposed guideline.

The flat screen is actually not a step back

I love the fascinating look From the other sides of the Galaxy S10 are the curved sides, but so far the flat screen is fine. However, you can still use the Edge screen tab, which allows you to open your favorite apps and contacts from any screen. I use this every day to open apps like Google Drive and Google Keep Notes.

The screen resolution and pixel value ($ 313 on Amazon) are the lowest of all S10 phones (438ppi versus 550ppi on the Galaxy S10 and 522ppi on the S10 Plus), but I found it hard to detect the difference between the phones at maximum brightness. I could still read well outside.

The display of the Galaxy S10E is technically not that good like the S10 Plus, but your eyes are not interested in it.

I've been browsing through websites, watching a downloaded Netflix video, and enlarging HD photos. If anything, the blues on the S10 Plus are a bit lighter and the S10E a bit darker. Yellow and red are warmer and more saturated on the S10E. With the S10E you will not lose any significant quality.

Note that the S10E on the front is equipped with Gorilla Glass 5, while the other S10 phones use a slightly harder Gorilla Glass 6 (all use Gorilla Glass 5 on the back)). If you are worried about drops, a glass protective film is an intelligent game. The Galaxy S10 phones come with a thicker plastic film on the screen. Samsung says this is a $ 30 screen protector, but not for me, so I pulled it off.

Wirelessly charging another phone on the back of the S10E works perfectly.

A fingerprint scanner in the power button indicates that you do not need ultrasound.

The Ultrasound Fingerprint The reader on the other Galaxy S10 phones is a big advantage. It's supposed to be faster, safer, and handle water and grease, but the Galaxy S10 Plus fingerprint scanner is unable to keep that promise. Fingerprint recognition is a hit or a miss, and unlocking the phone takes a swipe. There are definitely restrictions on wet and greasy fingers, and this after two software updates (hopefully a future fix will fix the problem.).)

All this means that the capacitive fingerprint sensor built into the power button the S10E is actually beneficial. This is actually one of my favorite places for fingerprint readers, as at least for righties is a natural place that is easy to reach and requires little guesswork. Samsung gives you the opportunity to unlock the phone with a soft touch instead of having to press the button, avoiding repeated stress.
