Even after extensive durability tests, reports have surfaced yesterday that several Galaxy Fold testers had already suffered from defective equipment. It appears that they have more than one type of problem, mainly due to the device's innovative folding display technology, and in a statement released today, Samsung said it "personally investigated these units thoroughly to determine the cause of the matter." According to Wall Street Journal Reporter Joanna Stern the planned launch of Fold on April 26 is still in operation with no sign of delay.
We're also checking the fold and you'll know how it works in testing, but we've never covered these issues with a hinged or plastic OLED display.
A limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples have been made available to the media for review. We have received some reports on the main presentation of the samples provided. We will personally examine these units thoroughly to determine the cause of the matter.
Regardless, some critics reported that they removed the top layer of the display and damaged the screen. The main display of the Galaxy Fold has an upper protective layer that is part of the display structure to protect the screen from accidental scratches. Removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. We will ensure that this information is clearly passed on to our customers.
With a $ 1,980 price tag, driving concerns about the combination device are among the key questions that early users expect. Whether an expansion device solves our various gadget problems or not does not matter if it can not last more than a week without collapsing. Hopefully these are isolated issues with early units, but only time will tell.
