Samsung's Always-On Display can now display GIFs

Samsung gives owners of its latest smartphones even more personalization options for the always-on display. According to Android Police you can now present GIFs on the screen when your phone is sleeping. The Always-On display is always displayed when you lock your phone and displays the time, your notifications, the remaining battery level, and other important information. Users can change the colors, watch style and other aspects of the AOD to make it feel a bit more customized to their own needs.

For the past few years, Samsung has also given customers the option of choosing between pre-installed images or selecting their own photo to appear next to these indicators. It is a good place to take a picture of your partner, a family member, your child or maybe just a stupid meme. GIFs open up even more potential for creativity.

Samsung includes some GIF options with the latest AOD software update. You can also use any GIF in your photo library. There is a limit to the maximum length, so remember that. And in the interest of not killing your battery for a very superfluous function, Samsung does not go through GIFs endlessly. It plays only once, but Android Police says you can double-tap the GIF to trigger another loop.

To get the GIF option, make sure you've updated the always-on ad to the current version, which is currently 3.2.26.4. GIFs are working on the Galaxy S8 / S8 +, Grade 8, and I would very soon introduce the S9 and S9 +.
