When the name of HBO Max was unveiled in July, WarnerMedia announced that the upcoming streamer will be the exclusive SVOD home for a number of new Warner Bros. dramas for The CW, beginning with the freshers 2019-20 in DC Entertainment's Batwoman and Riverdale Spinoff Katy Keene.
During the HBO Max-focused WarnerMedia Day presentation on Tuesday, the Storm's original content editor Sarah Aubrey revealed how many series are included in the contract with Warner Bros. TV-10. This is approximately 4 to 5 years, as WBTV usually receives 2-3 new CW series orders per season.
New CW series became available for streaming after network parents, Warner Bros and CBS, decided last spring to set Netflix's output deal for the past seasons of the CW series, starting with these seasonal additions. Batwoman Ka ty Keene (WBTV) and Nancy Drew (CBS TV Studios).
The CW series has become a hot streaming product with its youthful appeal and binging qualities. In her talk, Aubrey noted that 5 of the 10 most popular teen series on streaming platforms are CW shows.
HBO Max will not start the entire season of the WBTV CW series. until 30 days before the beginning of the following season, subject to the terms of the CW Distribution Agreement. Until then, they will be available on the CW platforms as the network continues to have streaming rights to its series in the season.
Of the two new CW series produced by WBTV Batwoman premiered this autumn. It has already received an order for the entire season and will have 22 episodes on HBO Max this coming September. Katy Keene debuts in the mid-season.
