Score Astros vs. Nationals: Washington uses Big Inning to destroy Houston in World Series Game 2



The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros on Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park in Game 2 of the World Series 12: 3. Washington are 2-0 in the Best of Seven series Leadership and will host the third game in DC on Friday night. The Nationals went up against potential Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and set off the game with a seventh inning in six runs.

Nationals catcher Kurt Suzkuki scored the starting shot – a solo shot in front of Verlander – in the seventh inning. It was the first run both teams have made since the first home game of Astro's third baseman Alex Bregman. After relieving Verlander, Ryan Pressly hit five more runs and received important hits from veterans Howie Kendrick, Asdrubal Cabrera and Ryan Zimmerman. The eighth inning brought three more runs out of Washington when Adam Eaton completed a two-run homer and Asdrubal Cabrera scored a two-shot in the center of the right side against Juan Soto.

Nats starter Stephen Strasburg claimed his fourth win of the postseason after throwing six innings. Strasburg gave seven goals and two earned runs to go with seven strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Verlander wrote history in the second inning of Game 2, overtaking [Smashtz] as the best strikeout ever in the playoffs . The defeat, however, was Verlanders second defeat in a row after being severely hit in the first inning of ALCS Game 5 against the Yankees.

The Nationals won eight games in October and have not lost to the Dodgers since NLDS Game 3. Road teams leading 2-0 have won the World Series 77 percent of the time.

Thursday is a day of travel for both clubs as the series for Games 3 and 4 change to Nationals Park in Washington DC and 5 (if required). The Astros will be right-handed Zack Greinke against Nats right-handed Anibal Sanchez for Game 3 in D.C. Send Game 3.
