Scotch Whiskey Pods: A modern version of the traditional cocktail



Scotch whiskey is no longer tied to bottles. The Glenlivet, a nearly 200-year-old traditional distillery, is now filling cocktails with edible capsules.

The product – a small, square, whiskey-filled, edible bag – is available for a limited time only as part of this year's London Cocktail Week, October 4-13.

The Glenlivet "Capsule Collection" was developed with the technology of the sustainable packaging company Notpla. The company uses algae as the basis for its beverage package "Ooho". The biodegradable packet is referred to as "ideal for eating on the go".

The Capsule Collection offers three flavors: Citrus, Wood, and Spice flavors made by award-winning bartenders and co-workers ̵

These cocktails use whiskey from the Founder's Reserve of the Burner, a single malt scotch made after the "proven distillation methods" introduced by Glenlivet founder George Smith long ago. "With this new beverage option, The Glenlivet combines its traditional whiskey with a modern method of drinking drinks.

According to Food & Wine, however, The Glenlivet capsules in the US may not be allowed to change in the near future.
