27th May (UPI) – Seven firefighters were injured overnight in a fire in a German amusement park, the police said on Sunday.
The Offenburg police said that neither staff nor guests at the Europa-Park in Rust were injured, but seven firefighters were treated for injuries sustained while they were working to extinguish the fire. They were all treated in a local hospital and then released.
The fire took place near Batavia pirates' boat cruise on the park's Scandinavian theme area, causing significant damage there and in the Dutch-dominated part of the park, wrote Europa Park CEO Michael Mack on Twitter
"A sad day for the Europa-Park to all who help us to save our life's work!" Mack said. "I can not express my feelings." Lost Batavia and Norway completely, but hitherto no person [was] injured. "
He added that the sections of the park in Iceland, Portugal, Luxembourg and the Colonial House were not damaged
The park opened and welcomed the guests on Sunday, although the parts affected by the fire remained closed.
"Although today was not the easiest day in our long history, I'd like to thank our hard-working and dedicated staff and rescue services, and of course our great fans who are doing so well today." A big thank you! "Mack said:
The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
