Sigma fp is the smallest mirrorless full-frame camera ever!

Sigma teases his new mirrorless full-frame camera for a while, but the official announcement is a bolt from the blue.

Sigma fp (which apparently stands for fortissimo pianissimo) The new camera will be equipped with a 24.6 megapixel sensor and use a classic Bayer color filter array, not Sigma's multi-layer Foveon technology that we originally believed.

Designed as the smallest and lightest The mirrorless full-size camera requires interchangeable L-mount lenses (including three new L-mount lenses that will be marketed simultaneously with the Sigma fp) and has been developed to match the pattern of the current one Breaching camera designs. Sigma's idea is "how a camera can be" and does not correspond to the current categories and hierarchies.

The following sigma video gives an insight into how Sigma fp works in a variety of situations. There is already a list of 9 Sigma fp accessories that can be used to extend and customize the camera for use with various devices.

The sigma fp certainly has to be different if it wants to compete with the best mirrorless cameras that already exist.

The user interface of the Sigma fp is intended to allow easy transition from still images to filming modes for a seamless experience (it even gets the latest trendy & # 39; Teal and Orange & # 39; kinook contain). It has a fully electronic shutter (there is no mechanical shutter mechanism at all) for noise-free operation and can take pictures at a frame rate of 1

8 frames per second.

The camera can record in CinemaDNG format – essentially in RAW format for video makers – and with this must be the most accessible camera on the market for many serious filmmakers.

We are also fascinated by the minimum ISO setting of this camera – in ISO 6 this is a record in itself. Break. Basically, this is a camera you do not need to spend money on for ND filters. Thanks to this extremely slow sensitivity, film shooters can easily use the widest apertures in the brightest of lighting conditions.

The Sigma fp has a user interface (we do not have screenshots yet) that allows you to switch from still to cinema mode with one finger.

The Sigma fp was developed as the smallest and lightest mirrorless full-frame camera, and Sigma wanted to develop a new type of camera, not just a clone of what already exists.

There are some things that are too high Can cause eyebrows. On the one hand, the Sigma fp uses contrast AF at a time when almost all competitors have switched to faster hybrid on-sensor phase detection AF. Contrast AF can be fast enough on cameras with smaller sensors and lenses, and Panasonic has made contrast AF well suited for its Lumix S1 and S1R full-frame models, but it will still be interesting to see how the Sigma fp carries with it

However, AF performance is crucial for run-and-gun viewing and documentary video reporting only. In the case of high-end video productions, more attention is paid to manual focusing, since the Sigma fp would have no disadvantage.

Image Stabilization and Buffer Capacity

The Sigma fp It can take pictures at up to 18 frames per second. However, with a buffer capacity of only 12 images, it is clearly not designed to capture long action sequences. It also lacks the in-body stabilization that Nikon Z bodies, Sony A7 and A9 and Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R bodies offer.

However, the Sigma fp offers digital image stabilization. In still images, which do not amount to much, digital stabilization in videography can be an effective tool for correcting shakiness and "drifting" in hand-held films. The best systems are getting closer to the digital gimbals, and we're curious how the sigma fp behaves here.

The Sigma fp camera is expected to go on sale in September at a price that has been announced as affordable & # 39; Price. We will bring you more details as soon as we receive them.
