Towards the end of the year, Qualcomm will release an announcement that may include the Snapdragon 865, which we're definitely looking forward to. However, it looks like the Snapdragon 875 Mobile Platform has come out as the likely name of its successor before its official release and is expected to be manufactured in collaboration with TSMC. Its 5nm + manufacturing process is scheduled for mass production in 2021.
Some details about the Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform have become known, according to a new report released on Sina. As most of you know, the company's latest Exynos 9825 is based on the much-improved 7-nm EUV process of the Korean giant. It looks like Qualcomm has worked with Samsung on the Snapdragon 865 to mass-produce the upcoming chipset using the same technology. For the year 2021, the report states that if the Snapdragon 875 is to be released, Qualcomm may return to TSMC for its 5nm node.
For the time being, it can be assumed that one version of the Snapdragon 865 has a built-in 5G baseband modem, while the other does not. Even this little detail has been talked about earlier, which means that manufacturers will have the choice whether or not to grant 5G connectivity support to their devices, depending on the markets in which the model is released. The first of many Snapdragon 865 benchmarks looks promising and shows that it is too early to draw conclusions and, as always, we recommend treating this information with a pinch of salt. Qualcomm is expected to launch new products in December of this year. We hope to get an indication of what the company is planning for the Snapdragon 875.
