The New York Department of Health says the flu is now "widespread," meaning that more than 1,000 cases have been reported so far.
Dr. John Zaso of East Meadow says the flu is not as bad as it was last year when it reached epidemic proportions. He says he sees that about 80 percent of the children who were not vaccinated were suffering from the flu.
Lisa Prastos and her boys visited their East Meadow Pediatrician on Wednesday. She says her family gets a flu shot every year. Stavros Prasto, who is nearly seven years old, says the shot was worth it for the lollipop.
Currently the state regulation on the prevention of influenza transmission is in force. It requires health professionals who work in certain facilities and have not been vaccinated for wearing masks. They could lose their jobs because they do not.
